This series contains correspondence, hand-written notes, copies of Contemporary Worship (CW) materials (not formal copies, but text sent to the printer), serials, and ILCW minutes, agendas, and reports. The majority of materials in this series were not in any order when received by the archives. Some files were labeled, but most materials were not in folders. Where a distinct grouping of documents regarding the same subject (such as initiatory rites or communion) was discernable, it was separated and put into discrete folders. All other materials were put into chronological order. Since the materials deal mostly with the work of the Liturgical Text Committee (LTC), a kind of pattern is apparent in the records: the files parallel the liturgical issues dealt with in the Contemporary Worship series published by the ILCW. For example, Contemporary Worship II-The Holy Communion was published in 1970. Therefore most of the material in the files for 1967-1969 deal chiefly with the eucharistic service. The other Contemporary Worship series are as follows. Contemporary Worship I, Hymns, 1969. Contemporary Worship III, The Marriage Service, 1972. Contemporary Worship IV, Hymns for Baptism and Holy Communion, 1972. Contemporary Worship V, Services of the Word, 1972. Contemporary Worship VI, The Church Year (Calendar and Lectionary), 1973. Contemporary Worship VII, Holy Baptism, 1974. Contemporary Worship VIII, Affirmation of the Baptismal Covenant, 1975. Contemporary Worship IX, Daily Prayer of the Church, 1976. Contemporary Worship X, Burial of the Dead, 1976. Materials were generated by worship committees and commissions of the LCMS as well as The American Lutheran Church (TALC) and the Lutheran Church in America (LCA). Correspondents include Eugene L. Brand, project director of the ILCW, and other ILCW participants. Much correspondence deals with invited commentary on various drafts of LTC material. Major topics include confirmation, baptism, holy communion, and the project for introducing the Lutheran Book of Worship (LBW). Ars Moriendi was an organization that dealt with religious issues on death and dying. Its eponymous newsletter was a resource used by ILCW members in preparing the Funeral Rite. The Lectionary, a Compilation of Pericopic Systems is a listing of Bible readings used for different days on the church calendar. It includes readings used by Roman Catholic, Anglican, Presbyterian, and Methodist churches, among others. The Oral History Interview was conducted in 1998 by Jeffrey A. Truscott, then doctoral candidate at the University of Notre Dame.
